The Problem:

A common problem engineers need to design for with air handling units that provide outside air into buildings, is the possibility that standing water in the coils could freeze leading to a frozen or burst coil. A typical solution to this issue is to provide a freeze protection circulation pump at the coil in order to maintain flow to prevent a freezing condition. Selecting the proper pump and understanding how it operates as the control valve modulates is crucial in making sure the entire system operates correctly and it is something that many designers overlook.

The Solution:

Tecspec Freeze Protection Systems monitor the air temperature and the water temperature in the loop while maintaining the proper fluid velocity to prevent freezing. Additionally, measure key system points to ensure optimal operation and efficiency.

  • Tecspec Freeze Protections System (FPS) enclosures are built using double wall foam panel construction. In addition to durability, these panels also reduce noise and act as a thermal barrier. Galvanized Steel, Powder Coated Steel, and Stainless Steel are available.

    All doors use “dual hinges” for complete serviceability. Doors can open in either direction and are easily removable without any tools. Wall mounting brackets are also available.

  • Tecspec Freeze Protection System (FPS) reduces time and cost of installation because the entire system is prefabricated and delivered to the job. Also, each unit is pressure tested in the factory to ensure it works correctly from day one.

  • Tecspec offers a complete controls package to accompany the freeze protection system. This includes a touch screen display which shows all data points and allows the user to adjust the system. In addition, complete BACnet, LonWorks, and Modbus integration is included.

  • Tecspec uses a smart design to provide optimal freeze protection while minimizing cost and energy usage. This is accomplished by sensing both air and water temperature, and modulating flow accordingly.
